Senior AI‑Augmented SQL Database Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior AI‑Augmented SQL Engineer to lead the definition and implementation of SQL standards, best practices, and AI‑driven guardrails across our development teams. You will combine deep SQL expertise with AI tools to generate, review, optimise, and automate database components at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Define and maintain SQL engineering standards, best practices and AI guardrails for queries, stored procedures, indexing, schema changes and other database components.
• Translate standards into AI prompts, automated checks and validation rules, and continuously improve them based on production feedback.
• Use AI to write, optimise and test SQL code, analyse execution plans, recommend indexing, and generate documentation and tests.
• Collaborate with developers, QA and DevOps to embed SQL standards and AI‑assisted checks into pull‑requests and CI/CD pipelines.
• Enable and mentor development teams on safe AI usage for routine SQL development and database work.

Required profile

• Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and T‑SQL, including query optimisation, performance tuning and execution‑plan analysis.
• Proven ability in indexing, stored procedures, database design and troubleshooting root‑cause analysis.
• Hands‑on experience with Git, pull‑requests and CI/CD pipelines.
• Mindset focused on automation, AI‑assisted development and enablement.
