Senior Electrical Engineer - PV & Energy Storage Projects

About the role

TekMinds, an engineering and management consulting firm supporting US clients in renewable energy and industrial products, is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer for its client, a leading US renewable energy firm. You will act as the Electrical Owner's Engineer for photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage (ESS) projects, reviewing and engineering electrical designs from development through commissioning. The position is hybrid, based in TekMinds' Karachi office and working exclusively for the US firm.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as Electrical Owner's Engineer on commercial, industrial and utility-scale PV and ESS projects, independently executing and reviewing electrical engineering work from development through design, construction, commissioning and asset management.
• Specify and review shop drawings, equipment data, single-line and three-line diagrams, site layouts, grounding studies, thermal ampacity studies and related deliverables.
• Perform or manage electrical studies such as protection coordination, power flow, arc flash, step/touch grounding, PSCAD or PSSE analyses, with review by more experienced engineers.
• Support project needs including utility coordination, RFI responses, equipment due diligence, factory test and relay test report reviews, and provide mitigation plans for project issues.
• Manage third-party engineering scopes and coordinate with EOE, EPC, utilities, commissioning and vendor stakeholders.
• Support the Grid Integration team with interconnection and utility coordination.
• Evaluate failure modes, design deviations and system performance, document assumptions, decisions, risks and mitigations, and escalate concerns promptly.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
• 7+ years of electrical engineering experience, including 2+ years of PV experience.
• Prior owner's engineering or design review experience and hands-on electrical study experience.
• Excellent communication skills across all levels of the project.

Required skills

• AutoCAD proficiency.
• ETAP, SKM or AmpCalc modeling experience; PSSE, Aspen or PSCAD is a plus.
• Familiarity with AcSELerator and RDB generation.
• Strong knowledge of PV plant electrical design, medium-voltage distribution and collection systems, grounding and bonding, protection and coordination, relaying, equipment ratings, and IEEE, NEC, NESC and OSHA standards.
