Senior SCADA Engineer (Pakistan)

About the role

HMF Project Management and Consultants Ltd is looking for an experienced Senior SCADA Engineer to join its Pakistan engineering team and support a UK-based SCADA and Real Time Systems team on major SSEN Transmission and Distribution projects. The engineer produces SCADA designs, configurations and technical documentation, taking ownership of defined engineering work packages from design through to testing and commissioning. The role is based in one of the Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad offices, with at least 4 hours of daily overlap with UK working hours.

Key responsibilities

• Develop SCADA and substation automation architectures for transmission and distribution substations
• Design industrial communication networks, including LAN topology, VLANs, IP addressing and PRP/HSR/RSTP redundancy
• Develop OT cybersecurity controls such as network segmentation, firewall rules and secure remote access
• Engineer IEC 61850 systems (SCD, ICD, CID files, GOOSE and MMS) and configure RTUs, gateways, bay controllers, station HMIs and protocol converters
• Build and maintain SCADA databases, HMI displays, alarm lists and control logic
• Support FAT preparation and remote troubleshooting during SAT and commissioning
• Produce functional design specifications, system architectures, network diagrams, signal lists, I/O schedules and test procedures
• Maintain configuration files and documentation under version control and address technical review comments from the UK team and clients

Required profile

• 10+ years of SCADA design and development experience in power utilities, substations or utility-scale energy projects
• Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Control or Computer Engineering
• Excellent written and spoken English and confidence working with UK-based engineering teams
• Desirable: experience supporting UK projects (e.g. SSEN), multi-vendor system integration, familiarity with ENA technical specifications, NIS Regulations and the NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework, and PEC registration

Required skills

• IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, DNP3 and Modbus
• Industrial networking: managed switches, VLANs, routing, PRP/HSR, RSTP and time synchronization
• OT cybersecurity and IEC 62443
• Experience with OEM platforms such as Siemens, Hitachi Energy, ABB, GE Vernova, SEL and Schneider Electric
