Software Engineer – EdTech & LMS (PHP/Laravel/Moodle)

About the role

We are looking for a mid‑to‑senior software engineer to lead the development and customization of our enterprise‑grade EdTech and Learning Management System platform. The solution is a multi‑tenant application built with PHP 8.x, Laravel and a heavily customised Moodle core, serving thousands of students during peak exam periods.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain clean, testable PHP/Laravel features that can be toggled per tenant.
• Build and sustain the abstraction layer that connects custom tenant functionality with Moodle’s database models and Web Services APIs.
• Implement multi‑tenant architecture, ensuring data isolation, permission controls and security of student records.
• Optimise database schemas and queries (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and introduce caching (Redis, Memcached) to handle high‑traffic spikes.
• Create secure RESTful APIs and webhooks for integration with Student Information Systems and payment gateways, adhering to standards such as LTI, SCORM and xAPI.
• Participate in code reviews, enforce engineering standards and contribute to automated test suites.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering production‑grade PHP/Laravel applications at enterprise scale.
• Hands‑on expertise with Moodle plugin development, web services and database schema.
• Strong grasp of modern software design patterns (MVC, Repository, event‑driven).
• Ability to troubleshoot complex SQL issues, optimise indexes and manage cache layers.
• High ownership mindset, problem‑solving under pressure and clear communication.
