BESS Performance Engineer

About the role

The BESS Performance Engineer will join the Asset Management team responsible for a growing portfolio of distributed generation projects across the United States. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will lead performance analysis, monitoring, and reporting for standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and emerging AC/DC‑coupled BESS + PV assets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead monitoring, performance analysis, and operational reporting for a portfolio of DG standalone BESS and paired PV + BESS assets.
• Develop, calculate, and track critical BESS KPIs such as Round‑Trip Efficiency, State of Health, auxiliary power consumption, availability, and State of Charge management.
• Conduct degradation modeling and build predictive analytics to forecast battery life and optimize charging/discharging cycles.
• Extract, clean, and analyze large‑scale SCADA and telemetry datasets to troubleshoot under‑performing systems and identify component failures.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists to integrate BESS telemetry into enterprise platforms and automate reporting pipelines.
• Model performance impacts of transitioning from standalone BESS to AC and DC‑coupled BESS + PV configurations.
• Present operational and financial findings with corrective actions to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience in performance engineering, battery modeling, or data analytics for energy storage.
• Master’s degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
• Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with engineers, O&M teams, project managers, and business stakeholders.
