BRT Infrastructure and Operation Specialist

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced BRT Infrastructure and Operation Specialist to support a major urban transport initiative in Karachi, Pakistan. The role involves providing expert guidance on the design, implementation, and optimisation of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems to ensure high efficiency and reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical and operational advice on planning, implementing, and managing BRT infrastructure.
• Develop and refine operational procedures and systems for smooth BRT service delivery.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including transport, civil engineering, and maintenance specialists.
• Address infrastructure‑related challenges and operational issues to maintain service efficiency.
• Review reports, operational plans, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with international best practices.
• Support capacity building and knowledge transfer for local teams and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, transport engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of senior‑level experience in BRT operations, infrastructure development, or comparable urban transport systems.
• Proven experience managing complex projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
• Strong strategic and operational guidance capabilities for large‑scale transport systems.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
