Consultant for Audit and Financial Statements Support
Jhpiego · Islamabad
Job description
About the role
Jhpiego, an international non-profit health organisation, is engaging an experienced consultant to prepare the final accounts and financial statements for the financial year ended 30 June 2026 for submission to the external auditors. The engagement aims for audit-ready accounts delivered on time and structured knowledge transfer so the finance team can prepare final accounts independently in future cycles. The consultant reports directly to the Sr. Finance Manager.
Key responsibilities
- Review the general ledger, trial balance and chart of accounts, assess month-end closings and reconciliations, and prepare a year-end closing plan and checklist.
- Finalise the trial balance, propose and post year-end adjusting entries, reconcile bank, receivables, payables, inventory and other control accounts, and prepare accruals, provisions and tax computations.
- Prepare the fixed asset roll-forward, depreciation, additions, disposals and impairment assessment, and handle foreign currency revaluation, employee benefit liabilities and related-party transactions.
- Prepare the primary financial statements and draft notes and disclosures, including a disclosure checklist and variance analysis versus prior year and budget.
- Compile the PBC list and audit-ready file, attend audit planning and clearance meetings, and assist with audit queries for up to 30 working days after submission.
- Deliver knowledge transfer to the Finance Manager and nominated staff: a KT plan, walkthrough sessions, a closing manual/SOP, annotated working-paper templates, a journal entry library, a disclosure checklist and an annual closing calendar, plus a competency assessment.
Required profile
- Professionally qualified accountant (ACCA, ICAEW, CPA, ACA, CA or equivalent).
- Minimum of 10 years' post-qualification experience.
- Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements under the IFRS Framework for NGOs and SMEs.
- Prior experience supporting external audits and working with audit firms.
- Proven training and mentoring ability.
Required skills
- Working knowledge of an ERP/accounting system.
- QuickBooks and Excel.
The assignment lasts 4 weeks, with a target submission to auditors by the first week of December, and is paid in four stages with a closure report at the end. It is on-site at the company premises or hybrid, with at least one day per week on site during knowledge-transfer sessions.
