Consultant Nephrologist

About the role

M. Islam Medical & Dental College in Gujranwala is seeking a Consultant Nephrologist to provide specialist assessment and ongoing care for patients with kidney disorders. The consultant works with clinical colleagues to deliver safe, evidence-based services and supports continuity of care across the patient journey. This is an on-site specialist role.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose and manage acute and chronic kidney conditions, including complex cases.
• Develop and review individualized treatment plans, including dialysis and renal replacement care where appropriate.
• Interpret laboratory results, imaging and clinical findings, and document decisions accurately in patient records.
• Coordinate referrals and care with internal medicine, nursing, laboratory and other specialist teams.
• Counsel patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options and kidney health.
• Take part in clinical reviews, quality improvement and education activities in line with institutional protocols.

Required profile

• Specialist clinical expertise in nephrology and management of renal disorders.
• Competence in evaluating acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, electrolyte abnormalities and hypertension-related renal complications.
• Knowledge of dialysis indications, treatment planning and monitoring of renal replacement therapy.
• Strong clinical judgment, patient assessment and risk-management skills.
• Clear communication with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams, accurate confidential documentation and familiarity with evidence-based protocols.
• Commitment to ethical practice, continuing professional development and quality improvement.
