Design System Lead

About the role

The Design System Lead will serve as the principal architect of Pakistan’s national digital UI library, turning the PDA Design System into a living product that powers hundreds of internal developers, designers, and external partners. You will bridge design vision and engineering reality to ensure rapid, consistent, and accessible government portal development.

Key responsibilities

• Architect the system by defining foundational architecture, design tokens, and a reusable component library across Figma and front‑end code repositories.
• Establish governance and contribution processes, including WCAG accessibility vetting, component request handling, and seamless merging into the central library.
• Author comprehensive documentation and usage guidelines that explain not only how components look but when and why to use them in a civic context.
• Drive enterprise adoption by evangelizing the design system and partnering with engineering directors across ministries and legacy tech stacks.
• Audit internal and vendor outputs to enforce strict, pixel‑perfect adherence to the national design language and accessibility standards.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hybrid UX/UI design and front‑end development experience, with at least 3 years dedicated to building and scaling enterprise‑grade design systems.
• Expert‑level mastery of Figma, including variables, design tokens, advanced auto‑layout, and complex component architecture.
• Strong practical knowledge of front‑end engineering constraints and frameworks such as HTML, CSS, and React, with the ability to review code and pair‑program.
• Systems‑level thinking and a passion for scalable, pixel‑perfect architecture across interconnected ecosystems.
