Health Promotion Officer (HIV)

About the role

The Health Promotion Officer (HIV) will lead Community Health Worker teams in Karachi to deliver integrated health education, surveillance, case management and community engagement, ensuring collaboration with medical teams and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test and deliver community health education materials, supervise CHWs and implement digital health promotion.
• Conduct rapid assessments, collect community feedback, encode data and flag critical issues for project coordination.
• Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, NGOs, government health services and other stakeholders; lead community meetings and update community mapping.
• Oversee community‑based surveillance activities, ensure accurate data collection and database management.
• Coordinate community case‑management initiatives, providing supervision, training and coaching to CHWs.
• Develop stigma‑reduction initiatives and supportive community spaces such as youth clubs and health committees.
• Plan, organize and supervise CHW team activities and meetings in collaboration with the HPCE supervisor.
• Conduct HIV/AIDS health education, pre‑test counseling, ensure confidentiality, and facilitate referral of reactive patients to ART centres.

Required profile

• Education: Bachelor’s diploma in social sciences, public health, community health or nursing (desirable); secondary school diploma (essential).
• Experience: Minimum 1 year in health/patient education or community‑based activities, preferably with MSF or another NGO.
• Language: Fluent in Urdu and Pashto (spoken and written); local residency preferred.
