HIV Nurse (Project)

About the role

MSF is seeking a dedicated Nurse specialized in HIV care to provide nursing care, treatment, and follow‑up for patients in Karachi, ensuring adherence to universal hygiene standards and confidentiality.

Key responsibilities

• Provide nursing care, treatment and follow‑up according to doctors’ prescriptions and protocols.
• Implement infection control, bio‑hazard prevention, and universal hygiene standards in all medical areas.
• Conduct HIV rapid testing (Determine and Uni‑Gold), collect finger‑prick samples, and manage test logistics and documentation.
• Identify and refer victims of sexual and gender‑based violence and manage post‑exposure prophylaxis (PEP) kits.
• Perform triage, first aid, and emergency referrals in ER and OPD settings.
• Supervise and train nurse‑aids, nutritional assistants, cleaners and ensure teamwork.

Required profile

• Recognized nursing degree or diploma (Bachelor in Science of Nursing desirable).
• Fluency in Urdu and Pashto (spoken and written).
• Desirable: minimum 2 years experience in NGOs and experience supervising staff.

Required skills

• HIV rapid testing using Determine and Uni‑Gold RDT strips.
• Finger‑prick blood sample collection.
• Infection prevention and control (IPC) procedures.
• Needle‑stick injury management and PEP protocol.
• Medical equipment sterilisation and maintenance.
