Mortgage Quality Assurance Manager (Underwriting & Operations)

About the role

The Mortgage Quality Assurance Manager will lead quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) activities across Offa's underwriting and operations teams. You will independently assess cases, transactions and processes to ensure they meet policy, risk, compliance and customer outcome standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform risk‑based pre‑offer, pre‑completion and post‑completion quality checks on Home Purchase Plan, Buy‑to‑Let and Bridging mortgage cases.
• Review underwriting rationale and supporting evidence, including eligibility, affordability, income verification, credit profile, deposit source, property valuation and legal position.
• Validate that decisions align with product criteria, underwriting policy, delegated authority, risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure case notes, conditions and decision records are complete, clear and audit‑ready.
• Identify material risks, confirm appropriate mitigation, escalation and approval of any policy exceptions.
• Conduct targeted reviews of higher‑risk segments such as complex income, portfolio landlords, HMOs, non‑standard properties and time‑sensitive bridging transactions.
• Audit operational mandates, data entry, document management, communications, payment instructions and system updates for accuracy and compliance.
• Test adherence to operational procedures, service‑level standards and hand‑off controls between underwriting, operations, legal, valuation and finance teams.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mortgage underwriting, quality control or assurance within a financial services environment.
• Strong understanding of mortgage products, risk assessment, regulatory frameworks and compliance standards.
• Ability to conduct detailed file reviews, identify control gaps and recommend sustainable improvements.
• Excellent analytical and investigative skills with a focus on accuracy and risk mitigation.
• Effective communication skills to report findings and influence process enhancements.
