Peer Support Worker

About the role

The ASPIRE Peer Support line offers free, confidential, faith‑informed assistance to youth of any background. As a Peer Support Worker you will handle the most urgent contacts, guide volunteer responders, and help expand this new service safely.

Key responsibilities

• Answer calls, texts and chat messages calmly and without judgment.
• Assess risk (suicide, self‑harm, violence, abuse, safeguarding) using a structured protocol and escalate when required.
• Manage higher‑risk and complex contacts, acting as the sole responder when volunteers are unavailable.
• Coach and support volunteer peer supporters in real time, approving emergency interventions.
• Co‑create safety plans with service users and provide warm referrals to community resources.
• Document interactions accurately, complete incident reports and conduct shift handovers.
• Liaise with hospitals, police and mobile crisis teams as needed.

Required profile

• Experience in crisis support or a related helping profession.
• Strong listening abilities and sound judgment under pressure.
• Comfort working with Muslim youth from diverse backgrounds.
• Willingness to provide two references and undergo a vulnerable‑sector criminal record check.
• Commitment to complete the organization’s training program, including suicide‑intervention modules.
