Senior Azure Migration Engineer

About the role

Ashlarashlar helps organisations modernise legacy systems and adopt AI and automation, working with senior oversight and daily updates in the client's own tools. It is looking for a senior engineer to lead the migration of legacy applications off Azure Cloud Services (extended support) before Microsoft's retirement deadline, assessing web and worker roles, choosing the right modern Azure target for each workload and carrying the migration through to a low-downtime cutover.

Key responsibilities

• Inventory existing Cloud Services deployments and map their dependencies
• Recommend and implement targets such as App Service, Azure Functions, Container Apps, AKS or VM Scale Sets
• Re-host and refactor .NET Framework, Classic ASP and Visual Basic components
• Replace Cloud Services dependencies (RoleEnvironment APIs, startup tasks, local storage, role-based configuration)
• Rebuild CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps
• Plan and run cutovers with rollback plans and minimal downtime
• Communicate progress daily and document decisions clearly

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands-on Azure experience
• Proven experience migrating apps off Azure Cloud Services (classic or extended support)
• Strong .NET Framework background, plus comfort with Classic ASP and VBA
• Clear written English and a habit of proactive communication

Required skills

• Azure DevOps pipelines and infrastructure as code (Bicep, ARM or Terraform)
• Azure networking and security: VNets, certificates, Key Vault, managed identity
• Nice to have: Windows containers and IIS-on-Azure hosting, experience with sensitive data (e.g. CJIS-style controls), Azure certifications (AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-400)
