Senior Software Engineer I - Backend

About the role

Careem's Marketplace ETA & Routing team builds the real‑time estimated delivery times and routing logic that powers all Careem verticals such as Food, Groceries, Taxi and Hala. As a Senior Software Engineer I you will design, develop and maintain highly reliable backend services that compute ETAs and route deliveries at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain highly scalable backend services for real‑time ETA computation and delivery routing.
• Write high‑quality, performant Golang code while delivering complete features and fixing bugs independently.
• Translate functional specifications into production‑grade backend solutions.
• Ensure system reliability through unit, integration, and end‑to‑end testing with a reliability‑first mindset.
• Participate in on‑call rotation and respond to incidents within defined SLAs.
• Contribute to agile and engineering practices and drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with teammates across Jordan, Pakistan, and Dubai, fostering technical excellence and team cohesion.

Required profile

• 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Hands‑on experience with Golang or at least one modern object‑oriented language (Java, C#, C++, Kotlin).
• Strong computer‑science fundamentals: object‑oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
