Software Architect (.NET and Azure)

About the role

Stewart is hiring a hands-on Software Architect to own the technical design of its modernization and AI-first build work. You will shape how new systems are architected, how legacy applications are modernized, and how they fit together on .NET and Azure. This is a hands-on role: you will still write code, prove out the hard parts yourself, and set the architectural direction that Technical Leads build against.

Key responsibilities

• Own the architecture for modernization and AI-first build work, from target-state design through to implementation.
• Design how legacy applications are modernized or replaced, accounting for the complexity of moving systems off.
• Set architectural standards, patterns and guardrails that Technical Leads and engineers build against.
• Prototype the hard parts, write code where it counts, and prove out designs rather than handing over diagrams.
• Make key technology decisions across .NET and Azure and stand behind them.
• Work with Technical Leads and the Head of Engineering to keep architecture and delivery aligned.
• Balance ideal design against real constraints of time, cost and the existing landscape.

Required profile

• 12+ years in software engineering, with strong hands-on architecture experience on real systems.
• Proven experience architecting modernization or migration of legacy systems, not just greenfield design.
• Still hands-on with code: you can build, not just diagram.
• Experience setting technical direction for and mentoring engineering teams.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, engineering or a related field.
• Experience in the title insurance, real estate or financial services domain is a plus.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in .NET (Framework and modern .NET) and the Azure cloud platform.
• Strong grasp of system design, integration and data, including the trade-offs involved.
• Ability to explain and defend architectural decisions to engineers and leadership.
• An AI-first mindset: using AI tools in design and building, and helping teams do the same.
