UAV Engineer

About the role

The UAV Engineer is responsible for safely operating unmanned aircraft to meet mission objectives such as high‑resolution imaging, site mapping, surveillance, or infrastructure inspection. The role combines flight operations, data handling, and technical maintenance in a dynamic field environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan flight missions by defining routes, analysing weather, conducting risk assessments and ensuring airspace compliance.
• Perform pre‑flight and post‑flight inspections, maintenance and safety checks on drones and ground control stations.
• Pilot drones manually or autonomously to capture required data while maintaining flight path accuracy.
• Gather, process and analyse imagery or video data and deliver concise reports to stakeholders.
• Execute operator‑level maintenance, repair hardware and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Maintain strict adherence to FAA (or local authority) regulations and company safety protocols.

Required profile

• Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (or equivalent local certification).
• Prior experience flying commercial drones, preferably with platforms such as DJI or fixed‑wing systems.
• High school diploma; a degree in aeronautical engineering, electronics or a related field is preferred.
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather, stand for long periods and lift equipment.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with engineers, clients and team members.

Required skills

• Proficiency with drone flight‑planning software.
• Experience using GIS tools and data‑processing software.
• Familiarity with DJI platforms and fixed‑wing drone systems.
• Technical troubleshooting of hardware and software issues.
