Unit Head Litigation – Lead Bank Litigation Function

About the role

The Unit Head Litigation will independently lead the litigation function of U Microfinance Bank, overseeing all court and regulatory matters both instituted by and against the bank. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the role ensures effective coordination with external counsel, branches, and internal stakeholders across Islamabad and nationwide.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise all contentious and non‑contentious litigation, including drafting pleadings, responses, and show‑cause notices.
• Coordinate with external panel lawyers and provide regular updates through a litigation dashboard.
• Provide legal support to branches on court notices, orders, and related actions.
• Oversee tax litigation matters, liaising with tax counsel, regulatory authorities, and handling income, sales, and withholding tax disputes.
• Draft and review contracts, agreements, and legal opinions as required.
• Participate in HRCC meetings and handle HR‑related legal issues.
• Conduct periodic visits to branches and courts to monitor case developments and assess counsel performance.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in civil and criminal litigation within Pakistan.
• Strong understanding of corporate law, regulatory frameworks, and intellectual property enforcement.
• Proven track record in managing tax‑related disputes and coordinating with tax authorities.
• Ability to lead a legal team, interact with senior management, and communicate complex legal concepts clearly.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Pakistani civil, criminal, and tax law.
• Experience drafting pleadings, submissions, and legal notices.
• Proficiency in managing external counsel and maintaining litigation dashboards.
