Senior Accountant - UK VAT

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant with deep expertise in UK VAT to join our remote team. You will work closely with our UK‑based accounting firm, handling complex tax and accounting tasks while mentoring junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Process financial transactions, maintain general ledger accuracy, and reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns, manage VAT calculations, and support the preparation of financial statements.
• Collaborate with the tax team to deliver timely corporate and individual tax returns.
• Review and mentor junior staff on accounting processes, VAT calculations, and tax return preparation.
• Assist in creating financial reports, analysing trends, and providing insights to management.
• Stay up‑to‑date with accounting principles, UK tax regulations, and industry best practices.

Required profile

• ACCA‑qualified accountant with 4‑5 years of remote experience for a UK‑based firm.
• Proven proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, VTT+, and TaxCalc.
• Strong understanding of VAT, accounting principles, and UK tax regulations.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and detail‑orientation skills.
• Effective communication, ability to mentor junior staff, and a proactive, results‑oriented attitude.
• Experience with video‑conferencing and collaboration tools is a plus.
