Refugee Legal Aid Lawyer

About the role

A client named Confidential is looking for a Refugee Legal Aid Lawyer to work in Islamabad, Lahore, Hari Pur and Timergara. The lawyer provides comprehensive legal support and assistance under the guidance of the Team Lead ALAC, working closely with the SHARP team to deliver timely, effective legal support in line with established procedures. The role involves engaging respectfully and professionally with refugees and asylum seekers, representing their interests in court and offering free legal aid.

Key responsibilities

• Represent refugees and asylum seekers in court proceedings in line with the SHARP mandate and legal frameworks.
• Provide free legal aid and counsel on the Foreigner Act, preventive laws, civil, tenancy and family law matters.
• Assist refugees in preparing legal documents such as loss of PoR cards, birth registrations and Nikah Nama.
• Organize legal camps and clinics, and hold legal information sessions on refugee rights and government policies in refugee settlements and urban areas.
• Support capacity-building for police, judicial officers and other officials on refugee protection issues.
• Liaise with government authorities, UN organizations and other stakeholders to advocate for refugee rights and coordinate services.
• Register new court cases, monitor ongoing litigation and keep detailed daily records of cases and counseling sessions.
• Develop weekly, monthly and yearly work plans with the ALAC team leader and field manager, and refer cases to other service providers when needed.
• Be available on a rotational basis during weekends, national holidays and festival off days, and carry out additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.
