Backend Software Engineer (Python/Django)

About the role

A client of Flatgigs is looking for a hands-on Backend Software Engineer with strong Python and Django experience to join its engineering team in Islamabad, Pakistan. This is a coding-focused role working closely with the technical lead to design, build and maintain scalable backend services, with a focus on clean, maintainable code.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services using Python and Django
• Build scalable RESTful APIs and backend microservices
• Develop secure, multi-tenant applications with robust authentication and authorization
• Integrate AI services, IoT devices and external platforms into backend systems
• Work with streaming and event-driven architectures for real-time data processing
• Design efficient database schemas and optimize query performance
• Contribute to distributed system design and implementation
• Write clean, well-tested production code, participate in code reviews and collaborate with the technical lead on architecture
• Deploy and maintain applications in cloud and self-hosted environments, troubleshoot production issues and optimize performance

Required profile

• 3-6 years of professional software development experience
• Strong Python proficiency and at least 3 years of hands-on Django experience
• Experience building REST APIs and understanding of asynchronous programming
• Nice to have: experience on AI, SaaS, IoT and large-scale data platforms, open-source contributions and agile teams

Required skills

• Distributed systems, event-driven and streaming architectures
• Authentication and authorization (JWT/OAuth), API security and OWASP best practices
• Multi-tenancy and RBAC
• Databases: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra (preferred)
• AI/IoT: LLM integrations, MQTT/WebSockets (preferred)
• DevOps: Docker, Linux, CI/CD, self-hosted deployments, AWS/Azure/GCP, monitoring and logging
