Reporting to the Director Exploration and Director RDM, the role provides independent technical assurance, identifies uncertainties and guides critical subsurface decisions that impact exploration, appraisal, development and field‑management.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and maintain petrophysical standards, workflows, quality‑control protocols and minimum technical requirements for both operated and non‑operated assets.
  • Design formation‑evaluation strategies for exploration, appraisal and development wells, ensuring appropriate data acquisition, fit‑for‑purpose tools and cost‑optimized programs.
  • Lead the development and assurance of well‑logging programmes, including open‑hole, cased‑hole, LWD, wireline, coring, pressure testing, sampling and special‑log acquisition.
  • Assess the value of proposed petrophysical data acquisition, balancing uncertainty reduction, decision impact, operational risk and total cost.
  • Provide assurance for cased‑hole logging and cement evaluation, covering production logging, saturation monitoring, behind‑casing evaluation, cement bond assessment and well‑integrity diagnostics.
  • Oversee interpretation assurance for logs, cores, SCAL/RCAL, saturation, pressure, test and fluid‑property data to support reservoir models, volumetrics, reserves and development decisions.
  • Drive digital petrophysics initiatives, data governance, technology adoption and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Develop the petrophysics competency framework and mentor junior staff.

Required profile

  • Extensive senior‑level experience in petrophysics and formation evaluation within the upstream oil and gas sector.
  • Proven ability to provide independent technical assurance and to communicate uncertainties to senior leadership.
  • Strong track record of establishing discipline standards and leading high‑impact subsurface projects.
  • Excellent analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.

Required skills

  • Petrophysics and formation evaluation
  • Reservoir rock and fluid characterization
  • Well logging (open‑hole and cased‑hole)
  • Logging While Drilling (LWD) and wireline techniques
  • Coring and pressure testing
  • Digital petrophysics and data governance
