About the role
The Chief Petrophysicist is the senior technical authority responsible for petrophysics, formation evaluation and reservoir rock‑fluid characterization across all MariEnergies assets. Reporting to the Director Exploration and Director RDM, the role provides independent technical assurance, identifies uncertainties and guides critical subsurface decisions that impact exploration, appraisal, development and field‑management.
Key responsibilities
- Define and maintain petrophysical standards, workflows, quality‑control protocols and minimum technical requirements for both operated and non‑operated assets.
- Design formation‑evaluation strategies for exploration, appraisal and development wells, ensuring appropriate data acquisition, fit‑for‑purpose tools and cost‑optimized programs.
- Lead the development and assurance of well‑logging programmes, including open‑hole, cased‑hole, LWD, wireline, coring, pressure testing, sampling and special‑log acquisition.
- Assess the value of proposed petrophysical data acquisition, balancing uncertainty reduction, decision impact, operational risk and total cost.
- Provide assurance for cased‑hole logging and cement evaluation, covering production logging, saturation monitoring, behind‑casing evaluation, cement bond assessment and well‑integrity diagnostics.
- Oversee interpretation assurance for logs, cores, SCAL/RCAL, saturation, pressure, test and fluid‑property data to support reservoir models, volumetrics, reserves and development decisions.
- Drive digital petrophysics initiatives, data governance, technology adoption and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Develop the petrophysics competency framework and mentor junior staff.
Required profile
- Extensive senior‑level experience in petrophysics and formation evaluation within the upstream oil and gas sector.
- Proven ability to provide independent technical assurance and to communicate uncertainties to senior leadership.
- Strong track record of establishing discipline standards and leading high‑impact subsurface projects.
- Excellent analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
