Deputy Manager Operations – Governance and Risk

About the role

The Deputy Manager Operations – Governance and Risk supports the Manager M & E in ensuring Akhuwat’s operations run efficiently, compliantly, and with a results‑focused approach. The role bridges Operations, Head Office support functions, and field offices to implement policies, manage risks, and improve performance.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing, implementing, and reviewing policies, SOPs, and systems across Head Office and field sites.
• Monitor departmental processes, remove bottlenecks, and propose automation improvements.
• Act as the focal point between Operations, field offices, and support departments for policy and SOP development.
• Support the organization’s Risk Management Framework, identify and record operational, project, compliance, and reputational risks.
• Coordinate risk and control self‑assessments, monitor key risk indicators, and ensure incidents are reported and investigated.
• Track risk mitigation actions, escalate breaches, and support fraud prevention and business continuity measures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Development Studies, Public Policy or related field.
• 4–6 years of relevant experience in operations, project management, compliance, risk management or M&E, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or coordination role.
• Experience in microfinance, development sector/NGO, social enterprise or a financial institution.
