Director Education

About the role

The British Council is seeking a Director Education to lead the strategy, planning and delivery of its Education and Tertiary Education portfolio across Pakistan. This senior position will shape programmes ranging from student mobility to science partnerships, ensuring they meet impact targets and align with UK government objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the national Tertiary Education strategy and annual plan.
• Oversee programme delivery, compliance, impact measurement, reporting and risk management.
• Provide technical leadership for the design and implementation of education programmes and partnerships.
• Champion digital solutions and emerging technologies to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
• Lead business development and income‑generation activities, securing funding through proposals and bids.
• Build and manage strategic relationships with government bodies, funders, higher‑education institutions and sector experts.
• Represent the organisation as a sector expert through thought leadership, research, networking and public speaking.
• Generate and share market intelligence on the local higher‑education landscape.
• Ensure sound financial management, including budgeting and forecasting.

Required profile

• Legal right to work in Pakistan at the time of application.
• Extensive senior‑level experience in education, tertiary education or related sectors.
• Proven track record in business development, partnership building and income generation.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with government, academic and private partners.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large, complex programmes and teams.
