Head of Anti Financial Crimes (MLRO)

About the role

The Head of Anti Financial Crimes (MLRO) leads the bank's compliance function, overseeing all anti‑money‑laundering (AML) and counter‑terrorist financing (CTF) activities. Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, this senior position ensures the institution meets regulatory requirements and mitigates financial crime risks.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Anti‑Financial Crimes department, supervising CDD/KYC, AML, CFT monitoring and sanctions compliance.
• Design, develop and maintain policies, procedures, systems and tools for KYC, enhanced due diligence, transaction monitoring, and regulatory reporting (STRs, CTRs).
• Conduct bank‑wide ML/TF risk assessments and evaluate controls against national risk frameworks.
• Support first‑line business units with policy implementation, risk mitigation and product review.
• Lead the development and delivery of AML/CFT training programmes for all staff.
• Maintain liaison with SBP, FMU and law‑enforcement agencies, ensuring timely regulatory filings and responses to RFIs.
• Prepare performance reports and MIS on ML/TF risk management for governance forums.
• Supervise the CFT desk and other regulator‑mandated activities.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in AML/CTF compliance within banking or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of Pakistani AML regulations, SBP guidelines and international standards (FATF).
• Proven leadership skills with ability to manage cross‑functional teams.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.

Required skills

• Expertise in Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD).
• Proficiency in transaction monitoring and sanctions screening tools.
• Experience with regulatory reporting (STR, CTR) and risk assessment methodologies.
