Head of Engineering

About the role

Convo is looking for an accomplished Head of Engineering to lead its engineering function, set technical direction and deliver scalable, high-quality technology solutions. The role combines strong technical expertise, engineering leadership and product and business acumen, with a hands-on approach. It also expects the candidate to use artificial intelligence as an integral part of the engineering ecosystem, evaluating AI models, platforms and tools independently.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the engineering strategy and lead the engineering function across software development, architecture, quality assurance and delivery
• Maintain scalable, secure and resilient architectures and make sound technical decisions on stacks, frameworks and infrastructure
• Take part in architecture reviews, solution design, code reviews and complex engineering challenges
• Integrate AI into the software development lifecycle and adopt AI-powered tools, coding assistants and automation, keeping an AI-agnostic approach
• Translate product and business needs into technical roadmaps, set performance metrics and accountability frameworks, and manage CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and deployment
• Manage engineering capacity, resolve bottlenecks and technical debt, and work with Product, Project Management, Business Analysis and executives
• Build and lead a high-performing engineering organization and foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement and innovation

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field
• 15+ years of experience in software engineering and technology development, including significant engineering leadership experience
• Proven track record of leading engineering teams and delivering complex software products or platforms
• Strong business acumen, analytical thinking, decision-making and stakeholder management

Required skills

• Software architecture, system design, APIs, databases, cloud technologies and modern application development
• Hands-on capability in architecture reviews, code reviews and technical assessments
• Experience adopting AI-powered development tools, coding assistants and automation
• Modern delivery frameworks, DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing and software quality
