Import Compliance Specialist

About the role

A General Trading Company is hiring an Import Compliance Specialist in Karachi. The Import Officer manages the full import process for goods arriving in the country, ensuring shipments clear customs promptly and comply with laws, tariffs and international trade regulations. The role works closely with suppliers, freight forwarders, shipping lines and customs authorities, and requires a solid understanding of import customs clearance, documentation and freight forwarding coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the entire import process, from arranging a forwarder at the supplier's warehouse to customs clearance and delivery at the warehouse, in line with national and international trade regulations.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of import documents such as bills of lading, invoices, packing lists and customs declarations.
• Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, shipping agents and customs authorities for timely release and delivery.
• Monitor shipment tracking and logistics to address delays or issues affecting delivery schedules.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of customs laws, tariffs, import duties and trade agreements.
• Verify that shipments meet Incoterms terms and resolve discrepancies related to trade compliance.
• Prepare and submit customs clearance documentation and coordinate inspections or audits as needed.
• Maintain records of import transactions and prepare regular reports on shipment status, costs and compliance.
• Collaborate with finance and procurement teams on accurate costing and timely payment of customs duties and fees.
• Address cargo damage, lost shipments and customs disputes promptly and professionally.

Required profile

• Minimum of five years of experience; the role is independent and does not involve managing a team.
• Detail-oriented, organized and proactive in resolving customs clearance and delivery issues.
