About the role
Octdaily is seeking a Junior Database Administrator to join its production support team. The role focuses on routine database administration, monitoring, backup and restore tasks, and assisting senior DBAs across SQL Server, MySQL, and MongoDB environments.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with SQL Server installation, configuration, and routine maintenance.
- Create and manage SQL Server logins, users, roles, and basic permissions.
- Perform regular database backups and restores.
- Monitor database health, disk space, CPU, memory, and availability.
- Monitor SQL Server Agent jobs and troubleshoot failed jobs.
- Carry out basic database maintenance activities.
- Monitor and troubleshoot basic blocking, connectivity, and performance issues.
- Assist with SQL Server Always On Availability Group monitoring and basic troubleshooting.
- Support database deployments across Development, UAT, and Production environments.
- Perform basic index and query performance checks.
- Assist with database security and access management.
- Support database recovery and routine DR activities under senior guidance.
- Perform basic administration and troubleshooting of MySQL and MongoDB.
- Monitor production databases and escalate critical issues to senior DBAs.
- Maintain database documentation, reports, and operational checklists.
Required profile
- 2+ years of relevant DBA experience.
- Hands‑on experience with MS SQL Server.
- Basic working knowledge of MySQL and MongoDB.
- Good understanding of SQL Server backup and restore processes.
- Familiarity with database security, users, roles, and permissions.
- Basic knowledge of Always On Availability Groups and HA/DR concepts.
- Ability to monitor and troubleshoot performance issues.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem‑solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Willingness to work in a production/support environment and learn advanced DBA technologies.
