Senior Backend Engineer - Python & Java Microservices (AI Platforms)

About the role

AllysAI builds production AI systems for regulated enterprises such as banking, pharma and energy. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will build the backend that the AI agents run on, integrated into your clients' own systems. The position is remote and full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build microservices in Python (FastAPI) and Java (Spring Boot), including services deployed inside a client's existing Java platform.
• Build the shared platform layer: API gateway integration, session and state handling, document services and the tools called by AI agents.
• Integrate with enterprise systems via REST APIs and message queues, covering authentication (OAuth2, JWT), retries, idempotent writes, error handling and audit logging.
• Pack and ship services as Docker images on Kubernetes (Azure AKS), with CI/CD, tests and monitoring.
• Work with the AI engineer, solution architect and DevOps engineer, and join client technical sessions when needed.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend engineering, with Java/Spring Boot and Python both used in production.
• Microservices you designed and own in production: APIs, databases (PostgreSQL), caching (Redis), queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ or Azure Service Bus).
• Solid grounding in security and reliability: auth, secrets, rate limits, retries without duplicate writes, observability.
• Docker and Kubernetes, CI/CD (GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps).
• Clear spoken and written English.

Nice to have

• Banking, fintech or other regulated-industry systems.
• Azure (AKS, Service Bus, Key Vault, API Management) and API gateways such as Kong.
• Experience exposing services to AI agents (tool calling, MCP).
