Senior SQL Server DBA (Azure)

About the role

Eila Solutions is hiring on behalf of its client for an experienced Senior SQL Server Database Administrator (Azure) to manage and optimize enterprise database environments in Gulshan-e-Jamal, Karachi. The role ensures high performance, reliability, security and availability. It is a full-time position requiring 7+ years of experience, including 3+ years with Azure.

Key responsibilities

• Optimize SQL Server performance through query tuning, execution plans, indexing and workload analysis.
• Design and maintain scalable database schemas and data models.
• Manage High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR), including Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering and Azure geo-replication.
• Administer SQL Server on Azure VMs, Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure SQL Database.
• Implement backup, recovery, monitoring, security and database maintenance strategies.
• Lead on-premises to Azure database migrations.
• Automate database operations using PowerShell, dbatools and Azure CLI.
• Troubleshoot production incidents, conduct root-cause analysis and mentor junior DBAs.

Required profile

• 7+ years of SQL Server DBA experience, including 3+ years managing production Azure workloads.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server 2016-2022, T-SQL, query optimization and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
• Knowledge of Always On Availability Groups, mirroring, log shipping and failover clustering.
• Practical experience in backup, restoration, disaster recovery and database security.

Required skills

• PowerShell scripting and database automation.
• Understanding of Azure networking, storage and identity management.
• Preferred: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300) certification.
• Preferred: Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates or database CI/CD pipelines; SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Synapse or Power BI; PostgreSQL or Cosmos DB; regulated environments such as SOC 2, HIPAA or PCI DSS.
