Social Media Manager

About the role

Dusk News Pakistan, an independent news platform covering politics, society, culture and technology, is growing its digital footprint and needs a creative, organized and news-savvy Social Media Manager. The role builds, manages and grows the social media presence across platforms, balancing real-time news updates with longer-term engagement strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Create and publish daily content (posts, reels, stories, polls, threads) on Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube and emerging platforms, with captions and headlines in line with the editorial tone.
• Make simple graphics and short videos with tools such as Canva, CapCut or Adobe apps, and repurpose website articles into social-friendly formats.
• Monitor, respond to and moderate comments, DMs and mentions, and engage with readers, journalists, public figures and partners.
• Track performance with analytics tools and prepare weekly/monthly reports; recommend and run growth tactics such as collaborations, trending hashtags, contests or AMAs.
• Update the content calendar with the editorial and marketing teams and spot viral moments.
• Support special campaigns (elections, major events, social issues) and coordinate paid social ad campaigns if needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Media Studies or a related field.
• 2-4 years of experience managing brand or news media social media accounts.
• Strong writing and copy-editing skills in news/media style.
• Experience with scheduling tools such as Buffer, Hootsuite, Later or native schedulers.
• Understanding of platform algorithms, especially Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter).
• Preferred: newsroom experience, basic SEO knowledge, experience with reels and shorts, ability to work under tight deadlines.
