WordPress Website Designer – Page Speed Specialist

About the role

Hashtag Media is seeking a WordPress Website Designer to create and maintain high‑performance sites for a diverse client base. The role focuses on custom theme and plugin development, responsive design using popular page‑builder tools, and rigorous page‑speed optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop fully custom WordPress websites from scratch, including theme and plugin creation.
• Design and redesign responsive pages using Elementor, Divi, WPBakery or similar builders.
• Conduct performance audits and apply optimisation techniques such as image compression, lazy loading, caching and script minification.
• Monitor site metrics with Google PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, GTMetrix and Pingdom, and produce regular reports.
• Collaborate with SEO, back‑end and design teams to ensure visual appeal, technical soundness and SEO best practices.
• Maintain and update existing sites to keep them aligned with current performance trends and security standards.
• Guarantee cross‑browser and cross‑device compatibility.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of WordPress core architecture, hooks, filters and template hierarchy.
• Proven experience in custom theme and plugin development using PHP, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript/jQuery.
• Hands‑on expertise with page‑builder tools such as Elementor, Divi and WPBakery.
• Demonstrated ability to optimise page speed and improve Core Web Vitals.
• Experience working on client projects in a fast‑paced agency environment; Shopify knowledge is a plus.
