Design Team Leader

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Design Team Leader to oversee the design of a large‑scale 800 MW hydropower project in KPK Province, Pakistan. The position is based in our Lahore design office and includes occasional site visits to resolve construction‑stage design issues.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a multidisciplinary design team of approximately 20 engineers.
• Review and improve tender designs for large CFRD dams (over 200 m tall) and associated components such as spillways, power houses, and tunnels.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant engineering standards, codes, and regulatory requirements and produce IFC drawings.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to guarantee integration and timely delivery of design packages.
• Review, approve, and sign off design documents, reports, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, and contractors to maintain clear communication of design objectives.
• Provide technical support and clarification during construction, addressing design‑related issues promptly.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an internationally recognised institution.
• Minimum 25 years of professional experience, with at least 20 years in dam and hydropower design and construction.
• 10‑15 years of specific experience in CFRD design and construction.
• Proven leadership record on complex dam engineering projects.
• Strong knowledge of international standards and best practices for dam and hydropower projects.
