Structural Engineer – Road & Highway Projects

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join its road and highway team in Lahore, Pakistan. You will be responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and code‑compliant structural solutions for major infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out and review structural design work for bridges, culverts, retaining structures, and other highway‑related civil structures.
• Prepare and review structural calculations, design drawings, specifications, and technical reports in line with project requirements and applicable codes.
• Provide technical input and support during design development, tendering, and construction stages to ensure structural integrity and constructability.
• Review contractor submissions, shop drawings, method statements, and respond to technical queries during construction.
• Identify structural risks and propose practical design solutions and mitigation measures to ensure safety, durability, and cost efficiency.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
• 10–15 years of relevant experience, preferably on road, highway, or major infrastructure projects in Pakistan.
• Strong knowledge of structural design principles, international and local codes, and engineering practices.
• Experience in design review, analysis software, and construction‑stage support.
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication abilities.
• Proven ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and site personnel.
