Lead Mechanical Engineer

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to drive mechanical design, review and implementation for road and highway projects in Karachi, Pakistan. The role will ensure that all mechanical systems are efficient, reliable and compliant with project requirements and standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee mechanical engineering design and review for road and highway infrastructure, including tunnels, pumping stations, utilities and related facilities.
• Prepare and review mechanical designs, calculations, specifications and technical reports, ensuring alignment with codes and industry standards.
• Provide technical input during design development, procurement and construction phases to guarantee quality and functionality.
• Review contractor submissions, method statements and shop drawings, and resolve engineering issues during execution.
• Identify mechanical‑related project risks and recommend mitigation measures to protect cost, schedule and performance.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
• 10‑15 years of relevant experience, preferably on road, highway or major infrastructure projects in Pakistan.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems design, international and local standards, and best engineering practices.
• Proven experience in design review, technical coordination and construction support.
• Excellent analytical, reporting and communication abilities.
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and site personnel.
