Experienced Medical Coder

About the role

Summit Billing Solutions is hiring an experienced medical coder with hands-on experience in US medical coding. The role requires a strong understanding of medical coding guidelines, ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and US healthcare documentation requirements. The position is strictly for experienced professionals; fresh graduates should not apply.

Key responsibilities

• Review patient medical records and clinical documentation to assign accurate medical codes.
• Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS codes based on the documentation.
• Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.
• Check medical records for completeness, accuracy and coding discrepancies, and identify and resolve coding errors.
• Verify that diagnoses and procedures are coded correctly before claim submission.
• Collaborate with medical billers and healthcare teams to resolve coding queries.
• Stay up to date on changes in coding guidelines and industry standards.
• Maintain accurate coding records and meet daily productivity and quality targets.
• Support denial prevention through accurate and compliant coding.

Required profile

• Previous hands-on experience in US medical coding is mandatory.
• Bachelor's degree (BS) required.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet daily productivity and accuracy targets.
• Willingness to work the night shift.

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding systems.
• Understanding of US healthcare documentation and coding guidelines.
• CPC, CCS or equivalent certification preferred.
