General Manager, Commercial

About the role

The Catalyst Group is hiring on behalf of its client, a leading modern retail and grocery business in Pakistan, for a General Manager – Commercial role reporting directly to the CEO. The role leads the commercial function across buying, category management, pricing, assortment, supplier partnerships and commercial planning, driving sustainable topline growth, customer value and margin expansion.

Key responsibilities

• Translate business targets into annual commercial and category plans, build category growth roadmaps and drive growth in core grocery and fresh categories.
• Lead buying and category management, own assortment architecture and mix optimization, run data-led category reviews and negotiate supplier agreements.
• Manage a commercial team of Category Managers and Master Data resources.
• Own buying and selling prices, govern pricing to balance competitiveness, value perception and profitability, and decide which supplier gains are kept and which are passed on to customers.
• Build strategic supplier relationships, improve rebates and promotional funding, and hold suppliers accountable.
• Own the commercial calendar and promotional planning, track promotion effectiveness and partner with Operations, Supply Chain and Finance.

Required profile

• 10-15+ years of commercial leadership experience in grocery retail, FMCG or modern trade.
• Proven track record of sales growth, customer satisfaction and margin improvement.
• Preferred age profile: under 40 years.

• Strong analytical and execution capabilities; effective leadership and stakeholder management.
