Protection Officer

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is running a 6.5-month project across five districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to strengthen protection and legal services for vulnerable communities. The Protection Officer leads the team in district and day-to-day project activities, reports to the Protection Manager and works closely with MEAL, caseworkers and referral partners. Frequent travel to project areas is required.

Key responsibilities

• Establish community protection committees and map protection services, identifying gaps in provision
• Conduct protection monitoring to identify the needs of vulnerable and risk-prone communities
• Identify and document protection concerns, including gender-based violence, child protection and access to essential services
• Liaise with district authorities such as the Social Welfare Department and with local authorities, humanitarian organisations and community leaders to validate data
• Support the development of referral pathways and compile data for donor reporting
• Develop work plans, help prepare spending plans, track activities against indicators and supervise project performance
• Provide regular updates and briefings to the team and partners, and report critical issues to management
• Represent the team at meetings, conferences and workshops and coordinate field visit planning

Required profile

• Master's degree in social sciences or a related discipline
• At least 2 years of experience in relief and humanitarian projects, including community-based protection work with vulnerable groups
• Fluent, professional-level English, Urdu and Pashto
• Ability to work well under pressure and in a team

• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Reading and writing at a normal speed with good comprehension of varied materials
