Risk Analyst I - Underwriting

About the role

Motive is looking for an experienced underwriting professional to join its Risk Management team. The role reviews and assesses the financial risk of new and existing customers and makes decisions based on policy guidelines. The successful candidate works as part of the Risk Organization and collaborates with sales, data science, product management and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, review and analyze applicants' financial, demographic and historical information, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, bank statements and credit reports
• Communicate directly with clients and sales about application status and explain when additional documents are needed
• Decide whether to approve, decline or seek an exception for each application based on policy guidelines
• Perform portfolio management, flagging suspicious or questionable items
• Recommend policy and process improvements to reduce failure points in the underwriting journey
• Analyze bank statements, spread financials and calculate risk ratios, culminating in an underwriting memo

Required profile

• 2-5 years of underwriting experience in financial services, high-growth payments or a fintech company
• Familiarity with the fundamentals of financial risk assessment
• Familiarity with U.S. compliance, lending and regulatory requirements (KYC, Reg B, Reg Z, UDAAP, FCBA, Truth in Lending Act)
• Proven experience with bank-based and financial underwriting
• Authorized to receive and access commodities and technologies controlled under U.S. Export Administration Regulations
