Senior Data & BI Engineer

About the role

Backticksai is seeking an experienced Senior Data & BI Engineer to design and maintain robust data pipelines, build Power BI reporting solutions, and translate business needs into actionable analytics. The role blends hands‑on SQL Server development with data modeling, stakeholder collaboration, and end‑to‑end BI delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL processes using SQL Server, SSIS, and related tools.
• Write and optimise advanced T‑SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.
• Build and maintain Power BI datasets, semantic models, reports, and dashboards with complex DAX calculations.
• Design data warehouses, data marts, and dimensional models (star, snowflake, slowly changing dimensions).
• Integrate data from ERP, CRM, banking, manufacturing, spreadsheets, cloud and third‑party systems.
• Gather stakeholder requirements and turn them into technical solutions, KPIs and decision‑support tools.
• Define and enforce consistent data definitions, business rules and data standards.
• Improve data quality through validation rules, exception reporting and governance processes.
• Support data‑science teams by providing clean, reliable data for machine‑learning models.
• Lead projects from discovery through implementation, testing, documentation and deployment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Analytics, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in data engineering, analytics engineering or business intelligence.
• Strong experience with SQL Server, T‑SQL and SSIS package development.
• Extensive Power BI experience including data modeling, DAX and dashboard creation.
• Proven experience designing data warehouses and dimensional models.
• Ability to investigate and resolve database and pipeline performance issues.
• Experience managing projects independently and communicating with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to work onsite in Johar Town, Lahore on a schedule aligned with U.S. Eastern Time.
• Experience handling sensitive data with appropriate security and privacy practices.
