Senior Hydraulic and Irrigation Engineer

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Senior Hydraulic and Irrigation Engineer to join a Water Resources and Irrigation project in Lahore. The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in hydraulic engineering, irrigation systems, and water‑resources management to deliver large‑scale infrastructure solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead hydraulic and irrigation engineering studies, design activities, and technical assessments.
• Conduct hydraulic modelling, water‑flow analysis, and irrigation network design in line with international standards.
• Prepare technical reports, design calculations, BOQs, specifications, and detailed engineering drawings.
• Design and review canals, pipelines, pumping stations, drainage systems, and related hydraulic structures.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental) to ensure effective project delivery.
• Provide technical guidance during planning, execution, and implementation phases.
• Assess project risks related to hydraulic performance, water management, and environmental considerations.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, client requirements, and international engineering standards.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Civil, Water Resources, Irrigation Engineering or related discipline (BSc/MSc preferred).
• 10‑15 years of relevant experience in hydraulic and irrigation engineering, preferably on large‑scale projects.
• Proven experience in a consultancy environment with a track record of delivering complex water‑resources solutions.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hydraulic modelling software.
• Expertise in irrigation system design tools.
• Design and management of canals, irrigation networks, drainage infrastructure, and hydraulic structures.
