Database Administrator (Proactive Pipeline)

About the role

The Expert Database role sits within the Database Administrator Team of the BSS Infrastructure Team, responsible for end-to-end database planning, installation, maintenance and operations, with a focus on deploying new technologies and keeping databases available 24/7, fault-free and up to date. It reports directly to the Manager DB Services and has an extended team of six members. The workplace is on-site in Islamabad.

Key responsibilities

• Install and maintain database servers and tune their performance
• Develop processes for optimizing database security and set and maintain database standards
• Install, upgrade and manage database applications, and create automation for recurring tasks
• Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors, and perform regular tests to protect data security, privacy and integrity
• Create and manage database reports, visualizations and dashboards
• Recommend and implement emerging database technologies
• Provide on-call support as needed

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
• Three to six years of experience in database administration, IT, database architecture or a related field
• Experience with Linux, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows Server environments
• Proactive attitude, strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to build relationships with internal and external teams

Required skills

• Databases: MySQL, MariaDB, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Cassandra
• Multi-node clustering, high availability and disaster recovery techniques
• Backup strategies and performance tuning for open-source databases
• Managing databases on-premises and in cloud infrastructure
