Design Team Leader

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Design Team Leader to head the design effort for a large 800 MW hydropower project in KPK Province, Pakistan. The role is based at the design office in Lahore with occasional site visits to resolve construction‑stage design issues.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary design team of approximately 20 engineers, overseeing review and improvement of tender designs for a 200 m tall CFRD and associated components such as spillways, power house and tunnels.
• Ensure all design outputs comply with international engineering standards, codes and regulatory requirements and produce Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings.
• Coordinate with consultants, clients and contractors to maintain clear communication of design objectives and deliver high‑quality solutions on schedule.
• Provide technical support during construction, clarifying design details and resolving issues promptly.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
• Minimum 25 years of professional experience, including at least 20 years in dam and hydropower design and construction.
• 10‑15 years specifically in CFRD design and construction.
• Proven leadership experience on complex dam engineering projects.
