Lead PHP/Symfony Engineer (Remote, Full-Time)

About the role

Smart Working is looking for a Lead PHP/Symfony Engineer to design, build, and maintain the core backend systems of its products. This fully remote, full‑time position works within an Agile team, collaborating with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to deliver scalable, reliable features.

Key responsibilities

• Develop backend features aligned with business goals and customer needs.
• Maintain and improve test coverage using PHPUnit.
• Build scalable, testable APIs and backend services.
• Review requirements, provide technical input, and guide implementation.
• Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers.
• Monitor systems and join a rotating on‑call schedule.
• Document features, processes, and architecture for team knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional PHP experience.
• 3+ years of hands‑on Symfony development.
• Strong communication skills in cross‑functional teams.
• Experience writing unit tests with PHPUnit.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and mentor others.
