About the role

The Aga Khan University Medical College seeks a senior academic leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS). The Chair will guide the department’s academic, research, and administrative agenda, fostering integration of basic and clinical sciences and advancing the university’s mission of high‑quality education and research.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the department’s teaching, research, and administrative functions.
• Oversee delivery of the integrated undergraduate medical curriculum and graduate programmes, including the MPhil in Biological and Biomedical Sciences.
• Strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration across anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, molecular biology, genetics, and bioinformatics.
• Guide the department’s research portfolio focused on priority health challenges in Pakistan and the region.
• Manage departmental resources, laboratories, and learning spaces to support high‑impact scholarship.
• Promote faculty development, mentorship, and academic excellence.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in academic leadership within biological or biomedical sciences.
• Proven record of managing integrated curricula and graduate programmes.
• Strong background in research administration and securing funded projects.
• Ability to foster collaboration between basic and clinical science disciplines.
