Chief of Polio (P-5) – Fixed-Term, Islamabad

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a senior professional to lead its Polio Programme in Pakistan. The Chief of Polio (P‑5) will guide the country’s effort to interrupt wild poliovirus transmission and strengthen integration with routine immunisation over a 24‑month fixed‑term contract based in Islamabad.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement high‑impact strategies to achieve polio eradication targets in Pakistan.
• Coordinate nationwide vaccination campaigns, surveillance activities and cross‑border collaboration with Afghanistan.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team, ensuring alignment with UNICEF’s whole‑of‑government approach and partner agencies.
• Monitor performance data, identify immunity gaps and adapt operational plans accordingly.
• Advocate for sustained political and financial commitment at national and international levels.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in large‑scale public‑health programmes, preferably in immunisation or disease eradication.
• Proven track record of managing complex operations in challenging security and humanitarian contexts.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder‑engagement skills, with ability to influence government and donor partners.
• Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, medicine or related field.
