Data Engineer Intern

About the role

Milliman, a global provider of actuarial and consulting services, runs a 3-month internship program in its Karachi office, which supports consulting projects across the Middle East and GCC. The program covers data engineering, data analytics, financial risk and quantitative analysis, financial analysis and modelling, and offers hands-on experience on real consulting projects. Outstanding interns may be offered a full-time role after completion.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain data pipelines for collecting, transforming and processing large datasets.
• Develop and optimize ETL / ELT processes to ensure data quality, accuracy and reliability.
• Assist in developing and refining financial models, forecasts and analytical tools.
• Help prepare reports, dashboards, presentations and other business documentation.
• Maintain spreadsheets, databases and analytical tools to support project objectives.
• Develop and implement credit risk models, including PD, LGD and EAD models.
• Contribute to departmental projects, process improvement and team collaboration.
• Support internal and external communications, documentation and administrative tasks.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or postgraduate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Finance, Business Analytics or a related discipline.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to present ideas clearly.
• Client-focused, detail-oriented, organized and able to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
• Eagerness to learn in a consulting environment, and ability to work independently and in teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Familiarity with databases or data analysis tools such as Power BI, SQL and Python.
• Quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
