Director of Internal Audit and Risk Management

About the role

Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University is seeking an experienced Director of Internal Audit and Risk Management in Islamabad to lead its internal audit department and oversee a team of 30 people. The role calls for a strategic thinker with extensive knowledge of risk-based internal auditing and regulatory compliance, who develops and implements audit strategies aligned with the university's governance framework and business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, lead and execute a comprehensive risk-based internal audit strategy aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
• Manage and mentor a team of 30 internal audit professionals, providing guidance, training and performance evaluations.
• Plan, coordinate and conduct audits across financial controls, operations, compliance and information systems, using data analytics.
• Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and other regulatory standards by designing and testing internal controls and recommending improvements.
• Oversee enterprise risk management by identifying key risks, evaluating mitigation practices and advising senior management on risk exposure.
• Prepare and present detailed audit reports to the audit committee and executive management, highlighting findings, risks and action plans.
• Use audit management software such as AuditBoard or HighBond to streamline audit processes, maintain documentation and track remediation.
• Promote continuous improvement through best practices, emerging methodologies and new audit technologies.
• Collaborate with finance, compliance, legal and operational teams, and monitor regulatory and industry changes to update audit programmes and policies.

Required profile

• At least 15 years of professional experience in audit functions.
• Strong focus on financial reporting, internal controls and enterprise risk management.
• Experience leading a large audit team and delivering insights to the audit committee and executive leadership.
