Senior Backend Engineer (PostgreSQL & Integrations)

About the role

This role takes technical ownership of an existing Airtable-based backend and leads its migration to PostgreSQL. You will build production PostgreSQL schemas and backend services, maintain APIs and integrations, and own backend reliability in production.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of the existing Airtable backend, including scripts, automations, integrations, credentials, dependencies, production troubleshooting and recovery procedures.
• Design and implement production PostgreSQL schemas and backend services from approved data models, including tables, data types, keys, constraints, indexes, audit/history structures and migrations.
• Build and maintain APIs, adapters and integrations with internal and third-party systems, handling authentication, retries, idempotency, synchronization, concurrency and partial failures.
• Plan and execute the migration from Airtable to PostgreSQL, including data transformation, validation, reconciliation, cutover and replacement of legacy scripts and automations.
• Own backend reliability through automated testing, observability, logging, monitoring, deployment controls, rollback, backup/recovery, performance management, security and data-integrity controls.
• Maintain clear technical documentation so knowledge is not concentrated in one person, and improve inherited systems without disrupting ongoing operations.

Required profile

• Strong hands-on experience designing, building, migrating, troubleshooting and operating production PostgreSQL systems, including schema design, transactions, indexing, migrations, query performance, data integrity, security and backup/recovery.
• Experience building and operating production backend systems with at least one modern server-side language, including APIs, automated testing, deployment and debugging.
• Experience moving production data between systems, including transformation, validation, reconciliation, cutover and recovery from failed migrations.
• Ability to inherit systems built by others, trace partially documented code and workflows, and make safe production changes.
• Comfortable directing AI-assisted development, reviewing and debugging generated code, and taking full responsibility for production output.
• Ability to read, troubleshoot and safely modify existing JavaScript-based Airtable scripts during transition.
